Re: Forum casting tuition
Not able to make 16th as we are up on the 10th to 13th Oct so will meet up with Colin then. We are going to the Weymouth casting club tournament on the 11th Oct hoping the wind will be up to improve on last months 237yd pb. If anybody wants to go and have a look at some of the best casters in the country or have a go yourself. Its usualy in a field near the Castle. Have a good day on the 16th.

Re: Forum casting tuition
HI JFBEE. ITS £6.00 FOR THE DAY WHICH IS FOR INSURANCE AND FIELD HIRE £5.00 FOR MEMBERS.
GIVE IT A GO ALL THE GUYS ARE VERY HELPFULL AND ITS NOT JUST FOR THOSE WHO CAN CAST BIG DISTANCES YOUR CAPABILITY DOESNOT MATTER.
YOU WOULD BE SUPPRISED JUST HOW FAR 100M IS LET ALONE 300 AS MOST ANGLERS EXAGERATE THEIR DISTANCES UNTIL THEY CAST ON THE FIELD.

Re: Forum casting tuition
That sounds very enticing just to see how far I really can cast. Also someone might be able to persuade me to have a go with the reel down the butt. A stupid question but do we have to supply our own leads?

Hi Kep
Have a go and see what you can do, however if you have a go down the butt(and it would help you gain a few more yards) make sure that you use a rod shorter than 14ft if you are going to pendulum, otg is better with a longer rod but most casters would struggle to pendulum with any rod longer than 14ft.

Re: Forum casting tuition
Kep, your do have to supply your own leads (steel eyed not brass) also there are regulations as to the dia of shockleader for use with certain weights e.g .75 for 150 & 175. No tapered leaders, swivels, the connection between lead and leader is by enclosed steel clip (not Gemini type link clip), but all the rules etc and there arn't many will be explained.
Give it a go its great fun (banter is brilliant).
But be warned it does become very addictive.

Re: Forum casting tuition
I will try with the reel down on my current 16' rods as I am use to pedulum casting with them but will also try with my 13' rods to see if there is a difference in distance.
Might give it a go at Weymouth. What time?

Kep casting usualy starts about 9.30 am to about 5/6pm depending on weather etc.
you should find reel dowm much better but thats personal pref some get on with it others hate it. try it 6 to 12" up the but to start with until you find the best position for you.

Can anyone go along and watch? Reckon I might pop along for an hour or 2 to see how it's done - Kep - If you're going, let me know and maybe I could come and have a look at your Daiwa TDSS rods?
Which castle are we talking about - Portland? Or are we talking Nothe Fort?
