weymouth pleasure pier
well after a few phone calls me and jarv still couldnt resist on travelling down to fish, arrived 11.30am and went straight to dennings picked up bait and made the decision not to fish the beach but the pier, quick trek round asda then to the fishmongers on the harbour for a fresh maky, then the best bit a nice frie up in a cafe on the front next to cash converters swigged down with two cups of tea now im ready to fish.loaded up the humpalumpa trolley and went to the end railings, there were three chaps fishing they had tried ferrybridge first thing but it was unfishable it was about 2pm by now they hadnt caught,i lowerd a three hook flapper down the side with rag squid and black lug and a two hook in the ferry channel opposite the stone pier apart from crabs nothing else. high tide a 6 getting dark and life at last rod tip rattling leave to develope which it does but just couldnt connect by this time i was casting straight out towards the end of the stone pier, the lad next to me managed a flounder and a few small whiting, i changed hooks size 1s to 2s long shank, but still couldnt connect but they were good bites, the wind got up a bit so we called it a night at 9pm.so although a blank i really enjoyed a comfortable days fishing its great to know for next time that the cafe upstairs is open and like spursboy said theres plenty of shelter, mind you me ears are still humming from that bloody condor it dont switch its engine off. ha ha cheerz geoff.

Good effort Geoff. Well the beaches certainly were out of bounds with that wind. I've found that you really need small hooks to catch around the base of the pier. You'll get big bites as the small fish peck away at your bait, but you do need to strike at them to help hook ups. Not a massive strike, just a good twitch of the rod tip helps. If you miss they won't go far and within seconds you'll be getting bites again. Good fun, but I've found March is a better month to start on the pier.
