bristol channel

Post by fishey wishey on Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:46 am

ive always wanted to have a go at fishing the bristol channel, ive been up to the severn beach and had a quick look on my way home from a job and ive been down to brean. im after somewhere you dont have to walk to far and somewhere i can put a small one man tent up and sleep overnight and also that you can chuck a hook out at low tide. oh and also some fish would be nice. if anyone knows of any decent venues please let me know,

cheers Very Happy

There are some very good spots from where you can fish in relative comfort, not far from pubs and eateries right here in town, there are fish to be caught but you will neeed fresh rag, and 1/0 and 3/0 pennel rigs, easy to make and cheaper if you make your own.

Off the "Knigtstone" I have had bass, (small ones) thornies and conger but its a big haul up the wall and hard to get anything if its big, you will need a hand to get something big in.

Fishing off the beach is very easy but extremely limited for time as the only time you can fish is near the top of the tide on a neap, you get more time on an ebb high, good lug beds here so use what is in the sand ie, Lug.

Give him a chance. Fishey hasn't been online since 6.26pm yesterday. Check your message folders. If the message is in your outbox it hasn't been read yet.

I was fishing Fri night over the hill in front of the old shrimp hut on Sand Point, the night air was warm, the moon was out with a slight breeze, 3.2 metre tide. Got over the hill crossed the rocks started preparing and realised I had left the top half of my rod in the car (it was dark) so I went back over the mini mountain to get my rod piece, its about half a mile. Got back to my spot put all my gear on the sweat was making me chill, readied up walked forward to make my cast and stepped into a very deep mud pool, which then sucked my left wellington off!! I then spent some time trying to get the welly out of the mud and eventually did. Peristence pays they say! I made my cast and cracked off. blx. Rigged up again made another cast and birdied. blx. Unfastened a nightmare birds nest cast again, cautiously this time and when I retrieved a while later it got stuck. blx. Cold, broken, disheartened, fishless and laughing to myself I went home.
