Ground Bait ???
Just wondered what your all your thoughts are on ground baiting an area, some times when I go up the bridging camp I take all my old bait (squid/mack etc) through the day/night I chop up bits of bait and either bury it in the shingle for the rising tide or just throw it in, if you mash up a load of old mackerel and freeze it into cricket ball sized lumps chuck it out it seems to leave an "oil slick" if you chuck out 4 or 5 lumps .....
Not sure if this attracts fish to the area or not, everytime I have used this method I have caught got hauls of fish, could be that the fish were there anyway or could be the fish were attracted to the ground bait or it could be the fish were around the area and the ground bait got them feeding ??
Does anyone else do the same and do you have any thoughts on this ????

Re: Ground Bait ???
I groundbait when fishing for Bream and Flounder but I use a swimfeeder. Some people dig up an area at low tide when Flounder fishing but throwing in at Chesil? Not sure about that as the tide would take it away very quickly although would work for fish near the surface like Garfish. Again burying it in the gravel might work on the lesser tides but a very subjective matter. If u are convinced it gets u fish then keep doing it.

Certainly works for gars. I tend to mush up a couple of mackerel with oatmeal or bread and add a little vegetable oil. The fish will follow the slick right to you.
General groundbaiting the shoreline is certainly a good way to hold the interest of bass as they cruise by. I do just like you and chop up old bait and a few mackerel and tread it into the shingle for the tide to wash out. I have caught bass that had chunks of my groundbait in its stomach!
