Dorset Pluggers

Post by Portland_Jon on Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:47 pm

Hi Guys n Girls

I have just joined this great local (to me) forum. I don't get out fishing half as much as I would like to but this year I am determined to get out with the plugging rod as much as I can. I love bass fishing but as yet have only caught schoolies so if anyone is interested in joining me for a spot of bass hunting please give me a shout. I live on Portland so can usually get out at short notice. I also have several kayaks and will be trying a spot of fishing from them too.

Cheers

Jon

I'm with you Jon. Really want to get bass on plugs this year. Only ever had them by accident when using spinners for mackerel. I will mainly be targetting the bass around west bay and seatown, but will be making a few trips out around portland. Should sea some nice sunrises if nothing else! Not sure about the kayak bit mind pale

Hi Guys

I'm looking forward to the bassing and have just read Doc Ladle's Operation Sea Angler again. Must have read it a dozen times now! I have heard of a few good marks that were producing plenty of fish last year that I want to try. I tend to do my fishing around Portland because I live there and I can be fishing within a few minutes of leaving the house. I am busy making plugs for the new season and learning to use the airbrush but they are nothing like the ones these guys make.

I work Monday to Friday and run a smallholding so am very busy but should be able to squeeze in an hour or two occasionally. Looking forward to meeting you guys soon.

Cheers

Jon

Really wish you hadn't put that link up jon. Looks soooo addictive, but I must resist! Smile

Yeah I know, my home made plugs are nothing like those but I will get there. I just use what I have rather than the expensive paints and sealers. I use water based acrylic paint from The Works bookshop and cheap paint from the clearance bin in the art shop then a couple of coats of car lacquer.

Hi Joe

I'll be waiting for the water to warm up at least to double figures before I get wet but I will be trying to get out with the plugging gear in the next week or so so give me a shout when you fancy a trip.

Cheers

Get yourself some Tempest Sidewinders 4 & 6" in blue and you won't need anything else.

Count me in too if I'm not at work. Summer leave is probably my best bet.

I've got a load of new poppers from the states I got last year that need to see some water! They've been in the dark since last year!
