Small stream fishing 14/5

Post by joe on Sun May 15, 2011 9:44 am

Headed out to a small local stream yesterday evening for a couple of hours fly fishing. My hopes were high as although it's usually a very hard water, with the colour in the water i was hoping the fish might be a bit easier to sneak up on. I was right Very Happy i had 2 fish in about 2 casts and over the space of a couple of hours landed 11 beautifully marked wild browns, boy do they scrap well for their size. I didn't even get the top of the stream before dark so i imagine with more time on my hands i could have had a fair few more.

Once dark i headed over to another stretch of river known for holding a few sea trout and changed tactics from upstream dry fly to down and across wet fly. Second cast and i had one of about 1lb ( not sure if i can count this on my species list ) great scrap again leaping all the way in Very Happy This was only a small one though and i was after it's mum and dad. I fished on down and although i had a couple of good plucks at my fly and heard a few jumping i didn't find the big one... next time though.

Really love small stream fishing, proper wild fish, proper wild habitat and usually Free Very Happy
