Whirlwind tour across England for a few fish
I allowed myself to be talked into an early start by a friend for a trip to Grafham Water - not the lake but the Exhibition Centre to look at tackle launch being featured in a well-known magazine (can't say who but they tend to reports on stream and field type stories
) I must confess that apart from the food it was a boring hour or two watching people pose by Grafham pretending to fish.
The interesting bit was a stop on the way back near Warwick where we actually got to fish with the spanking new fancy american tackle that was being featured. My job was to try and land a big Brownie and a big Rainbow so that someone more photogenic could pretend that the fish had been caught by them on the new tackle being featured (even though I'd taken along my Hardy and my Chris Ward to fish with)
A reasonable sunny afternoon was made miserable by a cold breeze and a lack of feeding fish until the photographer and the director? started throwing food pellets in and we just cast out without flies, just floating pellets... It was like being a carp fisherman
Luckily between the four of us we managed enough decent sized fish before the light faded for a decent photo shoot.
So I got a free day out, free food, free fishing on a well-stocked trout lake, and loads of freebie lines, leader, Gink and Xink, Fish-Fuzz for fly-tying, got a nice Brown Trout for tomorrow's lunch - and I have to do it all again in a couple of months when the season starts and they want to do a boat fishing feature.... Life is hell when you have friends in publishing

Sounds like you had a good time, and free tackle thrown in can't be bad.
