Do you know any farmers with land? It doesn't have to be masses, there is no harm in practicing with a hockey ball and an old multiplier you can cast with the spool engaged and the drag all the way off to limit the distance ( i might get shot down for this but it does work and you wont get an overrun if you loose sight of the lead!)  best of all join a club like honiton, westward or Dorchy.

What standard is your casting at the moment?

Used to be able too on the old wsm airfield before some tosser started developing the land. The best option is a field but spring tides over low at brean are fine if nobody is about. Where in somt are you?

If you are looking to improve your FISHING cast. The place to practice is on the shingle. Its nice and easier on the field down wind and with  firm footing. and just a lead However in fishing mode with loose shingle wind in your face and a few more clothes on its more of a fishing situation. I know a few really good long distance field casters that do struggle on the beach given fishing conditions.

As brad and colin said its gotta be about fishing, the best casters I know on the match scene would not necessarily produce massive distsnces on grasd but can put three baits a long way..thats what you gotta aim for. My advice would be to have a day with colin (I can chuck a lead ok and he helped me no end), and to try and get to the session that chidzy is jacking up on the flats.

cheers
