Durleigh reservoir - bad organisation on Wessex Water's part

Post by Guest on Sat Aug 30, 2014 11:59 am

Guys,

I took a day off work and had a run up to Durleigh in anticipation of some late summer pike on plugs and spoons. I had never been there before - the marketing stuff on the web and Wessex brochure show that it is good for pike - and open from 8am every day except Christmas and New Year.

I checked the prices and opening times on the WW website on the morning of my trip.

When I got there, the disorganised Wessex Wasters had shut the whole place all day for a match - charming!    Sad

There are more days in the future when it is shut too - so check if you are planning to go. No mention of it on their webshite

It seemed rather silly to close the whole place so that 5% of the bank could be used by pole anglers to do some rudd and bream bashing.

My local club is better organised than WW who say they have a full time bailiff allocated to sorting out the fishing arrangements - they need to send him on an effective communication course at HQ!

I could have spent the day at Chesil - don't think I'll bother with Durleigh again if they don't want my custom.

Pike on the fly

Post by Guest on Sat Aug 30, 2014 8:54 pm

Thanks for the invite to Chew - I gave it a go 2 years ago - caught one - about 15lb. I might consider a run up there. At least they know how to get things organised at Chew

I have been pike fly fishing on the Somerset Levels (Taunton AA water) - they go mad for a big fly on there. After my disappointment at Durleigh, I headed over there. I had a couple of jacks on a Rubblex spinner but it was very weedy. The good news is that the EA were there launching their weed cutters. I know they destroy some habitat - but they make the place fishable (of course they are no there for angler's benefit - keeping the levels flowing is one of Cameron's promises to the Levels folk).
